Uganda is a party to international trade arrangements which allows it to penetrate the major global markets. These agreements and treaties include the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) with the European Union (EU), the African Growth Opportunity Act (AGOA) with the USA, the WTO Services Waiver that was granted to the Least Developed Countries (LDC) Group, China Free Trade, India Africa Free Trade Agreement etc. During 2020 Uganda exported goods and services worth $ 3.621 bn. which was a 15% growth from the previous year. Uganda’s top global trading partners are United Arab Emirates, China, Kenya and the EU27.
Overall, the UAE, EU (Agricultural, fisheries and Industrial products) , Kenya (Milk and tobacco), and Congo, are Uganda’s leading export destinations. Exports were UAE ($1.615bn), EU ($425m) and USA ($51m). Uganda’s exports to the EU grew by 6.1% between 2019 and 2020.
