Uganda has a relatively young pharmaceutical industry. In 2010 Uganda's pharmaceutical market volume was about US$ 276 million – with 90% of the drugs being imported. There are opportunities in Uganda to manufacture or supply low-cost medical supplies, instruments and equipment, and medical consumables. To interest investment in a local production of essential drugs and medical supplies, the Uganda government has tax incentives and policies supporting local manufacture of pharmaceuticals including Tax exemptions are in place for imports of production raw materials and machinery, support for the establishment of pharmacy training schools, increased access to information technology and water supply.

Uganda’s medical facilities are attracting U.S. investors, especially in private medical care and oncology.
